Island Hotel Istra is the only hotel in the Rovinj area where getting there is part of the experience. It sits on Crveni Otok (Red Island), which is actually two islands — St. Andrew's and Maskin — connected by a land bridge. A regular boat service (included in the stay) runs from Rovinj's Delfin Pier, and the 15-minute crossing delivers you to a car-free island ringed by beaches, hidden coves, and pine-shaded promenades. The 312 rooms and 14 suites all have balconies with sea or park views.
The island's wellness and spa centre uses aromatic Mediterranean herbs grown on the property, and four outdoor pools provide alternatives to the sea. Dining includes La Serra Anno Domini 547, an a-la-carte restaurant housed in a historic summer residence, alongside a main buffet restaurant, Basilico Pizza Pasta, and several bars. A diving centre and windsurfing equipment are available directly on the island.
What makes this hotel genuinely different is the island itself: no cars, no traffic, just the sound of cicadas and the sea. You can spend entire days exploring the rocky coastline and swimming coves without ever needing to leave. The old town of Rovinj is always visible across the water, a short boat ride away.
