From February 3 to 18, 2026, Rovinj came alive with the sights and sounds of its beloved annual carnival. The tradition, deeply rooted in the town's Italian-Istrian heritage, brought together locals and visitors for over two weeks of festivities featuring costumed parades, masked balls, and street performances throughout the old town.
Children's carnival events kicked off the celebrations, with young participants showcasing creative costumes in parades along the waterfront. The main carnival procession wound through Rovinj's narrow cobblestone streets, led by elaborate floats and accompanied by traditional music. Satirical performances and skits poked fun at local and national affairs, keeping the crowd entertained.
The festivities culminated with the traditional burning of the carnival effigy, symbolising the end of the season and the arrival of Lent. As always, the carnival provided a vibrant reminder of Rovinj's rich cultural traditions and its community's talent for celebration.
