From late November through early January, Advent in Rovinj turns the old town's piazzas and waterfronts into a winter wonderland. Christmas market stalls line the city centre, offering handmade gifts, local delicacies, and warm cups of kuhano vino (mulled wine) to keep the chill at bay. Festive lights drape the narrow streets, and live music — from traditional Croatian klapa harmonies to jazz ensembles — fills the evening air.
The programme runs for over six weeks, making it one of the longest Advent celebrations in Istria. Families will find plenty of entertainment for all ages, including children's workshops, seasonal cooking demonstrations, and special performances. The backdrop of Rovinj's Venetian-era architecture, illuminated against the winter sky, creates a setting that rivals far more famous European Christmas markets at a fraction of the crowds.
Advent in Rovinj is jointly organised by the City of Rovinj, the Tourist Board, the Ecomuseum Batana, Maistra, and the local craftsmen's association. Whether you're spending the holidays in Istria or just passing through for a weekend getaway, this is the time of year when Rovinj feels most like home.
