Palud

Rocky, Pebble

Description

Palud

A remote beach at the southern edge of Rovinj, next to a protected ornithological reserve — pure nature.

Palud is the southernmost beach in the Rovinj area, about 8 km south of town — a rocky-and-pebble shoreline backed by forest, right next to Istria's only bird reserve. It's genuinely remote: no resort, no sunbeds, just a small bar for a cold drink and exceptionally clean water.

The entry is rocky and pebbly — water shoes help, and the clear, deeper water is good for a proper swim and a bit of snorkelling. There's natural shade from the trees at the back, which is rare on Rovinj beaches. It suits nature lovers and anyone after quiet more than families with small kids looking for easy sand.

Getting there: take the coastal road south from Rovinj (about a 15-minute drive) and park by the reserve — it's an excursion, not a quick dip. Bring water and whatever you'll want for the day.

Right beside the beach is the Palud Ornithological Reserve — 230+ bird species and an easy loop walk — so it's a good morning to combine a swim with a bit of birdwatching.
