Ulika is the small one, and it is small on purpose. Around 120 guests, built on a former olive grove 3 km from Rovinj with vineyards and farmland around it. There is deliberately no kids club and no animation programme. If that sentence reads as a warning, this is not your campsite; if it reads as a relief, it probably is.

The site

Twenty pitches at 60–90 m², spread through the old olive grove rather than laid out in rows. An outdoor heated pool with a relaxation area. The nearest beach is 600 metres away, which is the trade you make for the quiet and the olive trees — you walk or cycle to swim.

Where you sleep

• Pitches — 60–90 m², shaded by the olives.
• Mobile homes — ten one-bedroom B&B units, each with a private garden and terrace, plus two larger family units with a kitchen. Twelve in total, which tells you everything about the scale.

Eating and drinking

The on-site restaurant is well regarded in its own right, with a tasting room for wine and olive oil — appropriate, given what used to grow here. Istrian olive oil is genuinely world-class and a tasting is a better use of an evening than most excursions. Bicycle rental on site, free wifi throughout.

Getting into Rovinj

3 km — a ten-minute cycle on the flat, or a short drive. Read where to park in Rovinj before driving into the centre, and cycling in Rovinj if you would rather ride.

Season

Open 10 March to 31 October — one of the longest seasons around Rovinj, and a real option in early spring and late autumn when the big camps are shut.

Who it suits

Couples and travellers in their thirties and up who want somewhere stylish and low-key near Rovinj, and campers who have done the resort thing and want the opposite. Families with young children who want a pool, a club and a beach at the door should look at Polari or Amarin instead — not because Ulika would turn you away, but because nobody would enjoy it.
