Description
Porton Biondi
A well-equipped beach north of the Old Town with gravel shores, concrete platforms, and direct views of the Rovinj skyline.
Porton Biondi is the closest sea swim from the Old Town heading north — a strip of concrete bathing platforms, pebble patches and gravel built into the limestone shore, about ten minutes' walk along the coastal path from the harbour. The view back south is the postcard one: the Old Town peninsula curving away across the bay, with the bell tower of St. Euphemia rising above it.
The platforms cantilever out into the deep, with metal ladders and stone steps for water access. There's no sand and very little proper pebble — the ground you sit on is mostly concrete. A line of cypresses and pines runs behind the beach, with grassy terraces under them for picnic shade. A bar-restaurant sits halfway along the strip; loungers and parasols are available for hire.
The beach faces west, so it gets full afternoon sun and is one of the better in-town spots for sunset. Water entry is gentle near the platforms and shelves quickly — fine for swimming, less so for the youngest children. Sea urchins live in the deeper rocks here, so water shoes earn their keep.
Practical: free roadside parking near the beach fills by mid-morning in July and August. Dogs are allowed on a designated stretch at the northern end. For more swimming nearby, San Pelagio sits a short walk further north, and Monte is the next bathing area heading south, right under the Old Town walls.
