Val Saline is the wellness one. It occupies a quiet bay 6–8 km northwest of Rovinj on the road towards Valalta, and at 11.7 hectares with capacity for 1,257 guests it is small enough to feel calm in August — which, on this coast, is worth a lot.

The lagoon and the beach

The signature feature is a swimming lagoon built from natural pebbles and filled with sea water from the bay itself, rather than a tiled rectangle of chlorine. Around it: heated outdoor pools and a children's pool with a spray park. The property runs along 730 metres of beach.

The Spa & Wellness zone has Finnish and infrared saunas, a Turkish steam bath and a whirlpool terrace — the reason people book here in May and October rather than only in high summer.

Where you sleep

• Pitches in five grades: Standard, Comfort, Premium, Luxury Mare and Prestige Mare, the Mare categories being the ones on the water.
• Mobile homes in Comfort, C2 and C4 layouts.

Eating

Restaurant Saline does wood-stove pizza, fresh fish and seafood and Istrian dishes, with a beach bar and a café bar alongside. There is a small harbour for sport boats and organised excursions from the site.

No dogs at Val Saline

Val Saline does not accept pets of any kind. Not on pitches, not in mobile homes — so if you are travelling with a dog, this is a hard no rather than something to negotiate at reception. Instead, Porton Biondi, Polari and Amarin all take them, the latter two with their own dog beaches.

Getting into Rovinj

6–8 km, so a car or a bike. The road runs back along the coast towards town and out to the Lim channel in the other direction. For town parking, read where to park in Rovinj.

Who it suits

Couples and families who want something modern, small and quiet, with a spa attached, and who are happy to drive into Rovinj rather than walk. If you want the same calm but adults-only and even smaller, look at Ulika. If you want a full resort with everything on site, Mon Perin down the coast is the bigger version of this idea.
